Berlinale 2027: The World's Most Public Big Festival Adds Two Audience Days

The 77th Berlinale runs February 10–21, 2027, and for the first time ends with two dedicated Audience Days. Here's how ordinary moviegoers get tickets in Berlin.

Cannes is invitation-first. Venice is a pilgrimage. Berlin is different: the Berlinale has always been a festival the city itself goes to. In 2026, it sold 350,000 tickets, a record, according to the festival's own figures. For the 77th edition, the festival is leaning into that audience even harder.

What's new for 2027

The 77th Berlin International Film Festival runs February 10–21, 2027, one day longer than recent editions. It now opens on a Wednesday rather than a Thursday, and the official awards ceremony moves to the second Friday, February 19.

That shift frees up the final weekend for something new: the first ever two Audience Days (Berlinale Publikumstage), on Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21, 2027. Festival director Tricia Tuttle described the audience as the Berlinale's "not-so-secret weapon" when announcing the change.

Around the public festival, the industry side keeps its own calendar: the European Film Market runs February 10–16, Berlinale Talents February 12–17 and the Berlinale Co-Production Market February 13–16.

Who can attend

Anyone. You do not need accreditation to buy a Berlinale ticket; screenings across the festival's sections are sold to the public. Accreditation is only for press and industry.

What it costs

The festival hasn't published ticket details for 2027 yet. Its ticket info page says all sales information will appear there in the run-up to the festival, so treat the following 2026 rules as a guide to what to expect, not a promise:

  • Regular screenings: €15–€20, depending on the venue.
  • Generation (the children's and youth program): €9, or €6 concessions.
  • Audience Day in 2026 (a single day, February 22): all screenings for €11, or €8 concessions.
  • Concessions applied to school pupils, students, people with disabilities, unemployed people, recipients of citizen's income, Berlin Ticket holders and Federal Voluntary Service participants, with proof.

With two Audience Days in 2027 instead of one, the bargain weekend has doubled. The exact 2027 Audience Day price is still to be announced.

How to get tickets, step by step

Based on how sales worked in 2026:

  1. Wait for the programme. The full lineup is published shortly before the festival. Bookmark the official ticket info page for 2027 details.
  2. Book online through the Berlinale programme. In 2026, tickets for each screening were released at 10 a.m. three days before that screening.
  3. Audience Day tickets were released earlier. In 2026, Audience Day tickets went on sale on February 9, well ahead of the day itself. Watch for a similar early release for the 2027 Audience Days.
  4. Mind the limits. A maximum of two tickets per person per screening (up to five for Generation).
  5. Pay and go. In 2026, credit card, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Wero were accepted, and tickets could be shown as a printout or a mobile QR code. Box offices at the venues also sold tickets.

Insider tips

  • Plan around the 10 a.m. release. Because tickets drop three days ahead, set a daily alarm and plan your festival three days at a time.
  • Look beyond the Competition. Panorama, Forum, Generation and the other sections are where the Berlinale's reputation for discovery lives, and they're usually easier to get into.
  • Generation isn't just for kids. Its films are often among the most moving of the festival, and tickets are cheaper.
  • Target the last weekend if you're on a budget. Two Audience Days at reduced prices make February 20–21 the most affordable weekend of the year to binge festival cinema.
  • Dress for February in Berlin. Lines outside the Potsdamer Platz venues can be bitterly cold.

The Berlinale proves that a world-class festival does not have to keep the public at arm's length. With an extra day and a whole extra Audience Day, 2027 looks like the best year yet to go.
