About Hedgehog Cinema

A hedgehog is small, curious, and notices everything. That is the spirit of Hedgehog Cinema: an independent film journal for people who love movies but don't want to read like film professors.

What we write about

  • Reviews: classic masterpieces, the New Hollywood era, 2000s films and recent releases. We explain why a film is considered great, the stories behind its making, the details hiding in plain sight, and the moments where a director's genius shows.
  • Coming Soon: the most anticipated films and series in theaters and on streaming, with official trailers.
  • Movies for Right Now: the right film for the mood or moment you're in, from rainy afternoons to your daughter's wedding day.
  • Events: festivals, free screenings and filmmaker Q&As, with links to the official pages where you can join.

How we work

Every post is researched from published sources such as film archives, interviews, festival programs and reputable press, and those sources are listed at the end of each article so you can read further. We use research and writing tools to help us cover more films, and every post is reviewed by an editor before it is published. If you spot a mistake, please tell us and we will correct it.

Images and trailers

Film stills and posters belong to their studios and distributors and are used for commentary and review. Trailers are embedded from official YouTube channels. Public-domain and Creative Commons images are credited with their license.
